Berkeley Township Police Department Receives Lifesaving Equipment Grant Award from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Bayville, NJ – The Berkeley Township Police Department’s EMS Division is better equipped to keep all community members safe thanks to a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The $14,567.82 grant will be used to purchase an automatic Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System, known as a LUCAS Chest Compression System and External Power Supply, fulfilling a critical need within the department.

“The Township of Berkeley is thrilled to hear that the Berkeley Police Department-EMS Division has been awarded funds for an automatic chest compression system from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation,” said Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato, “Bolstering our first responders’ life-saving capabilities, especially in times like these, is wonderful news for our community.”

“We are committed to helping organizations such as the Berkeley Township Police Department continue their lifesaving work within local communities. We are honored to be able to award this grant and do our part to ensure that the Township of Berkeley is safer for everyone, including first responders,” stated Robin Peters, Executive Director of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The LUCAS Automatic Chest Compression System will not only bring the BTPD into compliance with updated CPR protocols, but will be used to ensure the department will continue to save lives as we continue to see a spike in cardiac arrests, especially with our vast aging community. The LUCAS system will also be an asset when responding to water emergencies, where unstable conditions necessitate an automatic chest compression device in order to deliver the most accurate quality of care when transporting a patient safely back to shore.

The grant was one of 96 Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grants awarded to public safety organizations across the country during the most recent grant application period. The 96 grants total more than $1.8 million.
